What better way to spend a Saturday night than cheering on some fierce ladies at the Okanagan Roller Derby. Spectators piled in to the Memorial Arena in downtown Kelowna on June 1st, 2013 to watch the Sun City Sirens take on the K City Rollers. Empowerific volunteers were on hand selling 50/50 tickets as the featured cause of the evening. OKRD generously donated half the proceeds from the 50/50 draw to the Central Okanagan Elizabeth Fry Society.

Okanagan Roller Derby is Kelowna’s first flat track roller derby league, they boast three house teams: Bad Apple Betties, K City Rollers, and the Sun City Sirens, along with their traveling team: the Peach Tarts. The Saturday night bout was an intense competition, but ultimately the Sun City Sirens walked away victorious. The final score: Sirens 295 Rollers 136. The Sirens now move on to the championship bout on Saturday July 20th.

For the last 2 years OKRD and the Sun City Sirens have been great supporters and Empowerific ambassadors for EFry. Our Empowerific team took some time to interview Yolanda Robinson of the Sun City Sirens about OKRD and their involvement with the Elizabeth Fry Society.

A great big thank uou to Yolanda and the Sirens, as well as the OKRD teams and league members for all your support, YOU are EMPOWERIFIC!
